All MICO Multiple Disc Brakes are spring loaded and hydraulically released. Chrome silicon die springs automatically apply the brake’s disc pack when hydraulic pressure drops. High strength ductile iron construction with case seals keep outside contaminates from entering the brake. Shafts are typically constructed of heat-treated 8620 steel. Brakes are available in SAE A, B, C, or D mounts with torque ranges from 136 to 2825 N-m (1200 to 25,000 lb-in) and release pressures from 6.9 to 34.5 bar (100 to 500 PSI).
Typical applications include manlifts, scissor lifts, winches, swing booms, and other low-speed vehicles and equipment.
A-Mount Multiple Disc Brake (modular design)
Torque ratings range from 203 to 1017 N-m (1800 to 9000 lb-in). Low release pressures make this brake ideal for use with closed loop hydrostatic systems.
B-Mount Multiple Disc Brake (narrow design)
This is an extremely compact design for length. Torque ratings range from 113 to 542 N-m (1000 to 4800 lb-in). Some models available with an optional pressure override feature for limited service braking.
C-Mount Multiple Disc Brake (modular design)
Low release pressures make this brake ideal for use with closed loop hydrostatic systems. Torque ratings range from 509 to 1356 N-m (4500 to 12,000 lb-in). Numerous mounting configurations are available.
D-Mount Multiple Disc Brake (modular design)
Simple four-bolt mounting configurations with models available for oil cooled or dry design applications. Torque ratings range from 621 to 2712 N-m (5500 to 24,000 lb-in). Low release pressures make this brake ideal for use with closed loop hydrostatic systems.
Compact Wheel Mount Multiple Disc Brake (motor input)
This is a wet design brake with pressure override option. Brake was designed for standard SAE hydraulic motor inputs and direct mounting of wheel hub to brake. Parking torque rating to 475 N-m (4200 lb-in).
Compact Wheel Mount Multiple Disc Brake (closed input)
Integral hub allows for direct mounting of wheel to brake. This brake has a high radial loading capacity, which makes it ideal for vehicles such as scissor lifts. Brake torques up to 1130 N-m (10,000 lb-in).
Large Wheel Mount Multiple Disc Brake (motor input)
This brake provides for direct mounting of wheel to brake. Designs exist for Eaton 2000 and 4000 bearingless motors.
Driveline Multiple Disc Brake
This driveline multiple disc brake is a wet design with tapered roller bearings for high radial and thrust loads. It was developed to retrofit competitive drum/caliper driveline parking brakes. This brake also has a lining wear indicator port. Holding torques up to 2825 N-m (25,000 lb-in).
Caliper Disc Brakes
MICO Caliper Disc Brakes are either a floating or fixed caliper design. Most brakes are available as brake fluid or mineral base hydraulic oil models. There are three series of MICO Caliper Disc Brakes.
515 Series Calipers are floating type calipers. They mount over a rotor disc with either pins or shoulder bolts. One side of the caliper is stationary, while the other is actuated to provide clamping force.
520 Series Calipers are mounted stationary (or “fixed”) over a rotor disc. They use a modulated hydraulic pressure source to apply the brakes. Each side of the caliper actuates to provide clamping force.
530 Series Calipers are floating type calipers that use belleville springs to apply the brake and hydraulic pressure to release it. There are also models available that are hydraulic apply with spring release. One side of these calipers is stationary while the other is actuated to provide clamping force.
MICO Caliper Disc Brakes are ideal for providing emergency and secondary braking for applications in the agricultural, construction, mining, and forestry industries.
Spring Apply (515 Series)
Belleville springs apply this brake and hydraulic pressure releases it. Used with 5/16 to 1/2 inch thick rotor disc of 6 inch diameter or larger.
Mechanical Apply (515 Series)
Mechanical lever and cam system applies and releases this brake. Uses a 5/16 to 1/2 inch thick rotor disc of 6 inch diameter or larger.
Hydraulic Apply (515 Series)
Modulated hydraulic pressure applies and releases this brake. Uses a 3/8 to 1/2 inch thick rotor disc of 6 inch diameter or larger.
>Hydraulic Apply (520 Series)
Has 2½ inch diameter opposing pistons. Uses a 1/2 inch thick rotor disc of 9 to 36 inch diameter.
Hydraulic Apply (520 Series)
Has 2½ inch diameter opposing pistons. Uses a rotor disc of 9 inch to unlimited diameter. Can be used with straight rail to provide full lining to surface contact.
Hydraulic Apply (520 Series)
Lightweight aluminum housing with 2½ inch diameter opposing pistons. Uses 1/2 inch thick rotor disc of 10 to 24 inch diameter. Mounts flush with torque member. Large surface area linings can be replaced without separating housing halves.
Hydraulic Apply (520 Series)
A split caliper with 3½ inch diameter opposing pistons. Standard 1/2 inch thick spacer can be replaced to allow for desired rotor disc thicknesses with diameters of 12 to 36 inches. Large surface area linings can be replaced without separating housing halves.
Spring Apply (530 Series)
Belleville springs apply this type brake and hydraulic pressure releases it. Uses a 5/16 to 1/2 inch thick rotor disc of 9 inch diameter or larger.

Modulating Brake Valves & Accumulator Charge Valves
MICO hydraulic brake valves and brake cylinders were designed and built primarily for heavy-duty off-road vehicles and equipment. Some possible applications these components would be found on include wheel loaders, haul trucks, road graders, scrapers, rough terrain forklifts, backhoe loaders, log skidders, and forwarders.
Modulating Brake Valves
MICO modulating hydraulic power brake valves provide directional control of brake system pressure. They also provide the operator with a “pedal feel” proportional to brake system pressure.
These valves were designed for use on vehicles that are equipped with other hydraulic power devices. This feature eliminates the need for a separate power brake unit or separate hydraulic fluid system.
There are single valves for single brake systems, tandem valves for split brake systems, valves with pilot sections, and reverse modulating valves.
Modulating valves can be operated by pedal, lever, treadle, cam, pilot pressure, and electromechanical devices.
Accumulator Charge Valves
MICO accumulator charge valves control the oil supply to an accumulator from a hydraulic circuit. This is accomplished using preset charging limits and flow rate (GPM).
There are accumulator charge valves for use in single brake systems, dual brake systems, and load sensing systems. MICO also has a charge valve with a built in relief valve to control the main hydraulic system pressure.

Hydraulic Master Cylinders
Master Cylinders are single piston, straight-bore type cylinders with a return spring. There are models with or without an integral reservoir. Cylinders are available as brake fluid or mineral base hydraulic oil models and come in a variety of mounting styles.
Two-stage MICO master cylinders are integrally designed to incorporate the advantage of a large piston for fluid volume and a small piston for high pressure. Transfer from the volume piston to the pressure piston is accomplished by means of a metered pressure relief valve.
